Cartoon Black Metal Band Belzebubs Has a New Song That Slays

Belzebubs

April 2, 2019 | by Jocelyn Hoppa

File this under "Things That Make Me Happy": Another cartoon metal band ala Dethklok where the music is just as good, if not better, than the gags.

Although as far as gags go, Belzebubs' new video for their latest single "Cathedrals of Mourning" is chock full of em: After some particularly gnarly guitar solo, Belzebub's black metal is just so brutal it causes an avalanche, which of course the band rides that shit all the way downhill, busting through a church and onto an otherwise unsuspecting ski scene. Just wait for the giant corpse paint snowball, because it doesn't disappoint.

Belzebubs was created by JP Ahonen, who teamed up with Metal Injection for the Belzebubs comic strip series (which seriously needs its own animated series). The whole premise is the characters in this universe are just trying to be as metal as they can be. Just try and name another genre of music aside from metal that is so good and perfectly fine with making fun of themselves.

More about the comic strip series:

"Hailing from the abysmal forests of the mystic North, Belzebubs has possessed a stealthy, cult status throughout their existence. Originally summoned together in 2002, the band has succeeded in creating a thrilling blend of melodic black metal, guttural growls and vivid solos, forged with progressive twists and cinematic soundscapes. Accompanied by a new drummer and a three-record-deal with Century Media, Belzebubs finally feels fit to take on the (under)world. “Cathedrals of Mourning” is the band's first second single, taken from their upcoming debut album, Pantheon of the Nightside Gods. It was mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö, who's also responsible for the sound of Dark Funeral’s The Secrets of the Black Arts, Dissection’s The Somberlain, and many more."

Line-up:
